  Faisalabãd district actually stãrted as Lyallpur districť in 1904, and before thãt, it was a tehsil of Jhang ďistrict. This city was built by Rai Bahadur Bhunidas Sikka. During British rule in colonial India, the city of Lyallpur was nominated for services in the colonies of the Chenab Valley in honor of the then Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, Sir James Broadwood Lyall. The Government of Pakistan renamed the city from Lyallpur to Faisalabad ('City of Faisal') in honor of King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. In August 1947, after three decades of nationalist struggle, India and Pakistan gained independence. The British agreed to divide colonial India into two independent states - Pakistan with a Muslim majority and India with a Hindu majority. However, the governing authorities believe that more Muslims will remain in India than will be integrated into Pakistan.
